Class #16

Watercolor Fresh & Loose: Paint With Confidence!

Jane Barnard

June 2 - June 8

instructor imageRecharge your creativity in a nurturing environment of fun and learning. Do you need to loosen up with expressive brushwork and bolder composition and color? Do you need encouragement and more confidence in your own creativity? Need blocks of time to paint? Specific how-to skills in basic watercolor techniques? If the answer to any or all of these questions is yes, then treat yourself to a creative week of personal art-making. Surrounded by the beauty of The Clearing, it’s the perfect getaway for mind, spirit and brush.

Mornings will begin with short inspirational readings to spark your creative spirit, followed by “how-to" demos in watercolor techniques. Topics include the elements of strong composition and design, how to simplify your values for fresh and vibrant watercolors, how to loosen up with expressive brushwork, how to do wet-in-wet and drybrush techniques, the beauty of transparency and how to mix clean, bold color, and techniques for painting from your own photos. How to fix those so-called “bad paintings” by lifting and other techniques will also be covered. These demos are hands-on, and you’ll apply them immediately.

Throughout the week, you’ll be encouraged to explore, uncover and be more confident in painting in your own personal style. Afternoons are for your own quiet painting time, with one-on-one guidance from Jane, at your own pace. Each afternoon session ends with an inspirational or instructional DVD.

Jane is skilled at uncovering and playing to your strengths, and she creates a fun, friendly and supportive atmosphere. You'll also enjoy the interaction and camaraderie of kindred spirits—your fellow artists trying to conquer this marvelous and maddening medium!

Note to returning students: Class instruction will include both new and tried-and-true watercolor demos. You’ll build on the creative skills you’ve been developing and gain more confidence with Jane’s guidance.
