Landscape “Painting” With Fabric
August 16 - August 22
If you are a quilter, or simply love fabrics, this may be the class for you! If you are looking to try something “out of the box,” this may be the class for you! Whatever your mindset, landscape “painting” with fabric will allow you the opportunity to create and explore with fabric for an entire week in an inspiring, natural setting.
On Monday and Tuesday, you will make a 16-inch by 20-inch piece of art, using a kit designed by Susan. You will learn the basic elements of her raw edge fabric collage technique, as well as some artistic principles. During the rest of the week you will make a piece entirely your own, using your own photograph and fabrics. (You may choose to take photos while you are at The Clearing.) You will continue to learn more about this unparalleled technique and develop more of the artistic skills that already lie within you.
Upon registration, you will be sent a detailed list that will help you shop for your fabrics and supplies. There will also be a mid-week field trip to Susan’s studio in Baileys Harbor as well as to the local gallery which represents her work.
In 2000, Susan began exploring fiber and textile techniques. She took a wide variety of classes over the ensuing years—Navajo rug weaving, rustic furniture building, primitive rug hooking, batik, gourd art and basketry, to name a few. While she loved the learning process, she didn’t find anything she was truly passionate about until she took an art quilting class in 2008. While she wasn’t interested in the quilting aspect of the class, she loved the idea of using fabrics to create a “painting.” Over the last 12 years, she has explored different ways to perfect the technique that allows her to frame her art under glass. Susan has won many awards for her art and her work has been included in many invitational and juried exhibits. She is represented by Fine Lines Design Gallery in Sister Bay, Wisconsin. Her work is owned by patrons throughout the United States. In addition, Susan’s piece Fire in the Sky is featured in the art book Color Passions: The Best of Mixed Media, published by Northlight Books. Susan lives in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin.
A supply list will be sent prior to class and is available online.
