Class #61

Essential Somatic Movement Retreat

Theresa Evans

August 23 - August 29

instructor imageWhat if you could learn a movement practice that supported any activity you wished to explore, be in yoga, strength training, walking, cycling or playing with your grandchildren? Essential Somatic Movements will teach you how to move with more freedom and more flexibility. You’ll start the week by sensing where you are “stuck” and where you move with freedom. Using a technique called pandiculation, you will learn to mindfully release these stuck areas with these gentle movements.

Surrounded by the beauty of The Clearing, you’ll explore mindfulness practices that support increased vitality in every aspect of your life, as the class studies self-compassion and the guiding principles and philosophy of Clinical Somatics. You’ll practice a walking meditation in The Clearing’s labyrinth, explore the artist within as you journal and use color, learn somatic movements to unlock areas of tension and explore a deeper and more peaceful way of being and moving. You will be guided to practice in a mindful way that is appropriate for your body and functionality.

Mats and all props will be provided. Bring your body, your beginner’s mind and a willingness to explore. This class is suitable for all levels. You must be able to lay on the floor and get up and down from the floor without difficulty. If you have injuries or health issues that you think might prevent you from participating, please contact Theresa through The Clearing.

Theresa Evans, RN, E-RYT 500, CCSE, Senior Essential Somatic Educator is the owner of Stone Path Somatics Studio in Door County. Currently, she spends 90% of her time travelling to India, Australia, the UK, Canada and around the United States teaching the benefits of Essential Somatic Movement to other movement teachers, those interested in becoming Certified Somatic Educators and anyone who is interested in moving with more freedom and joy. Believing strongly in the mind-body connection, Theresa began her journey to yoga by first sitting quietly and establishing a meditation practice. Rather than focusing on the outward appearance of the pose, she invites her students to embrace the process and move from the inside out.

Theresa will contact students prior to class.
