This class is for folks who have some basic forging experience, right up to those who are seasoned blacksmiths.
Prior to class, Dan will ask each student to design the project(s) they’d like to forge. He will then guide each student through the forging processes needed to complete their project(s). He will also provide some demonstrations of fun and exciting forms and techniques during the class.
Bring safety glasses, a notebook and a pencil. If you have hearing protection and appropriate gloves, bring those as well. And please, do not bring synthetic clothing or synthetic shoes for this class.
Dan Nauman is a Wisconsin native, has been forging since 1979, and has been forging professionally since 1993. He has taught, demonstrated and lectured around the country at universities, conferences and museums. His work includes gates, railings, door hardware, lighting, fireplace equipment, furniture and sculpture, and can be found at such places as the Captain Frederick Pabst Mansion, the Lynden Sculpture Garden and Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Executive Residence in Madison, Wisconsin, the former estate of Harvey Firestone, Jr. in Akron, Ohio and at many more sites. He has won several awards for his metalwork designs and workmanship. Currently, Dan is the editor for two magazines that are published by the Artist-Blacksmith’s Association of North America, The Anvil’s Ring and The Hammer’s Blow. Dan has been the consulting blacksmith throughout the design and construction of The Clearing’s Forge.

Level: Beginner/Intermediate to Advanced (This class is not for the absolute beginner. Basic forging skill is required.)
