Watercolor Studio

Bridget Austin

October 9 - October 15, 2022

instructor imageThe peak of fall color, a week to paint every day, The Clearing’s cozy Schoolhouse full of art, ideas and laughter—it’s the perfect setting for creating new inspirations for your watercolor paintings! During this week, Bridget will provide daily demos to get you thinking and working in different ways, provide challenges to improve your paintings and work with you on an individual basis to address your personal interests.

The Clearing’s setting is always a great subject, with its stone and log buildings, paths, fall colors, views of the bay and the myriad trees and plants. However, you are encouraged to paint whatever inspires you. During the week, topics will include using and improving photos, reorganizing your subject with value sketches, saving the whites of the paper, developing rich darks and being expressive with color. In addition, shape variety and negative painting will be demonstrated. A variety of subject matter may include flowers, Door County and Clearing landscapes, water, rocks, people, animals and a looser, more abstract approach to watercolor.

Students who have some experience with watercolor but would like to see improvement will enjoy this encouraging and fun-filled week. Feel free to bring a week’s worth of ideas or be inspired by The Clearing, Door County and the daily demos and challenges. Also, feel free to use your favorite paints, papers and brushes, although an optional supply list will be sent.

Bridget Austin has enjoyed painting and teaching watercolor workshops for over 40 years.
