October 16 - October 22, 2022

instructor imageIf you’re looking for a forging class with a variety of fun and challenging projects, then this one is for you!

Dan will first demonstrate, then guide you through making several hand-forged items, including a candle holder, a trivet, a tripod, a whimsical garden weathervanes, a corn-cob bird feeder (holds six-ears) and finally, a five-foot tall, three legged, six-tier pot/pie rack (often used in the past for storing various pots or for cooling pies), which is useful as a planter or to display or store various items, such as decoys, towels, knick-knacks, etc.

You can make as many items as time allows. You need to have some forging experience, since the class is not designed for absolute beginners.

You must bring safety glasses, your favorite forging hammer, a one-half inch round bastard file with handle and a notebook and pencil. Hearing protecting and gloves are options. Please do not wear synthetic clothing or shoes while in class.

Dan Nauman is a Wisconsin native, has been forging since 1979, and has been forging professionally since 1993. He has taught, demonstrated and lectured around the country at universities, conferences and museums. His work includes gates, railings, door hardware, lighting, fireplace equipment, furniture and sculpture, and can be found in Milwaukee at the Captain Frederick Pabst Mansion, the Lynden Sculpture Garden and Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum, in Madison at the Governor’s Residence, in Akron, Ohio at the former estate of Harvey Firestone, Jr., and at many other sites. He has won several awards for his metalwork designs and workmanship. Dan was the consulting blacksmith throughout the design and construction of The Clearing’s Forge.
