Class #112

Knit Your First Sweater!

Whitney Gross

October 23 - October 29, 2022

instructor imageLearn to knit your very own sweater! In a class designed for the beginner/intermediate knitter, you will be making a seamless top-down raglan sweater. Prerequisites include knowing how to knit and purl, how to knit in the round and how to read a knitting pattern.

Whitney will cover how to gauge and fit, how to adjust a pattern to fit your measurements, short-row shaping, increasing and decreasing stitches, picking up and knitting stitches and knitting in a small circumference. By the end of the week, you will be half finished, or more, with your sweater, and you’ll have all of the skills required to confidently finish it. Nothing is more satisfying than knitting your very own sweater!

Whitney will send students a list of materials separately, and will provide four sweater patterns from which to choose.

Whitney Gross opened Knit Whit’s Yarn & Crafts in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin in June of 2019. She has been knitting for over 15 years and is mostly self-taught. Prior to owning the shop, Whitney was a school social worker, where she especially enjoyed the extracurricular activities in which she taught students knitting and sewing basics. It is her greatest thrill to introduce knitting to beginners and to watch them get as excited as she does when picking up their needles and advancing their skills. Whitney enjoys knitting socks, hats, mittens, shawls and, of course, sweaters!

A supply list will be sent prior to class and will be available online.
