2022 Summer Program

Class #20

Photography: Creative Composition

Hank Erdmann

May 29 - June 4, 2022

instructor imageThis class will concentrate on using your human and creative sensory inputs to turn pictures into expressions of not just what you see, but what you feel, then sharing those impressions with those who view your images.

This class is open to all ability levels. You’ll learn how to make images that translate your feeling through a few slide lectures, a lot of location shooting and image demonstrations. Hank will address any photography questions as they arise but will concentrate mostly on creativity and composition.

All instruction is designed for DSLR cameras. Bring your camera, camera manual, lens(es), and tripod. A laptop with some image processing software is really a necessity to process your images for critique and instruction. The class will help you put feeling and emotion that translates to your viewers into your work. You’ll photograph at numerous Door County sites, including state and county parks, natural areas, rural areas and shorelines, and will rise early one morning to photograph the sunrise.

Hank Erdmann is a professional photographer and writer from Will County, Illinois. He has photographed throughout North America, with the Midwest being his main area of interest. A love of the maritime history of the Great Lakes kindles a special interest in the shorelines, islands and natural areas of Lakes Michigan and Superior. Hank teaches workshops and guides photography tours across the country. His photographs and articles have been published by BrownTrout, Door County Magazine, Chicago Wilderness, National Geographic, Outdoor Photographer, Sierra Club and Wisconsin Trails. Hank is currently a Board Member of NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association).
