Class #7

Fun With Glass: Combining Glass Mosaic & Glass Fusing

Gary Chaudoir

May 8 - May 14, 2022

instructor imageThis class will combine two very popular glass disciplines—glass fusing and glass mosaic.

In the first half of the week, you’ll create fused glass items which will be incorporated into your mosaic project later in the week. You’ll use them as flat components in your project or slump them and let them become three-dimensional components, adding relief and visual interest. Examples include leaves, flowers, landscape features or abstract shapes. You’ll also have the opportunity to create other fused items for your personal use or for gift-giving. This could include an assortment of fused glass earrings, pendants, pins, magnets and money clips. And if time allows, you can create a six-inch diameter dish or a five-inch diameter bowl.

In the second half of the week, you’ll work on your mosaic project. You’ll create either a transparent project for a window or an opaque project on a wood base to display as a wall hanging or on a tabletop.

Gary will assist you with design, composition and glass cutting, and will provide materials, substrates, adhesives, grout and sealant if called for. You can let your imagination run wild, since you can accomplish techniques with mosaics that are too complex for regular stained glass work.
