Abraham Lincoln as Commander-in-ChiefLarry Desotell
Mondays, January 10 & 17 from 1-4
This class will examine the manner in which President Abraham Lincoln utilized his power as Commander-In-Chief to develop the “war powers” of the president. It will do so by examining the political aspects of this power, the use of extra-constitutional actions regarding abolition and the suspension of habeas corpus, and his involvement in military strategy, operations, and tactics. It will also analyze his relationship with top generals such as George McClellan, George Meade, and Ulysses S. Grant.
