2022 Workshop Program
The Art of Drawing
September 29 & 30 | 9 - 4
Drawing is one of the most elemental forms of communication throughout human culture, and the foundation for all of the visual arts. This fun, process-oriented workshop with artist Kay Brathol-Hostvet is for everyone—from beginners to advanced students with an emphasis on FUN! Go beyond traditional drawing, expand skills and creativity, and regain the delight we had as children when drawing. Using nature-inspired subjects and ideas, you'll explore expressive mark-making, exaggeration, distortion, co-operative drawing, and the use of non-traditional drawing tools we will find in nature. We will work both intuitively and cerebrally so come with an open mind. Our drawings will be about exploration and experimentation—the processes we employ—rather than focusing on finished products. A supply will be sent prior to class and is available online at www.theclearing.org.
Kay Brathol-Hostvet is an enthusiastic instructor bringing a wealth of experiences to the classroom. Kay is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America and has a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, with concentrations in drawing and painting. She works from her studio in Eau Claire, WI and is represented by Edgewood Orchard Galleries in Fish Creek, Abel Contemporary Gallery in Stoughton, and Riverwood Art and Frame in Eau Claire.
