Learning old world techniques, you will build a flat brim western/fedora hat by hand. You will learn how to size a hat, steam and form felt, cut a brim, add an inside hat band, create a feather trim, and add an outside trim! This hat style suits many people and can be customized to your taste. If you have trim that has special meaning and you’d like to incorporate into the hat, please bring it. A thimble is a great tool also. I will bring special thread and needles. The steamer can get very hot, if you have thin latex gloves, that will help.
My passion for hats has been with me for as long as I can remember. After spending years in couture sewing for women’s evening wear, I became completely captivated by the art of hat-making. I have 15 plus years of experience of millinery and hat making and love to share my knowledge. I teach old world techniques, and every hat is made by hand, stitch by stitch. Basic hand sewing is a plus, but I can teach you.
