Docent Led Walks
The Clearing Folk School is once again pleased to offer free, docent-led walks covering the 88-year history, folklore and landscape of the school and its 128-acre property. These interpretive walking tours will visit the historic campus area of the property, which is on the National and State Historic Registers, led by our volunteer docents. The approximate two-hour walks begin at 1:00 p.m. on many Saturdays and Sundays starting in early May and running through the end of October. Specific tour dates are listed below. August through October dates will be announced in July.
No pre-registration is necessary. Tours begin at 1:00 p.m. from The Clearing’s Jens Jensen Visitor Center, located at 12171 Garrett Bay Road, Ellison Bay, where maps are also available for self-guided tours during weekend Open House hours (noon-4). The trail terrain is rugged in places, and sturdy walking shoes are highly recommended.
Visitors are welcome to the Jens Jensen Visitor Center Bookstore and Gift Shop Monday through Friday 8-4, plus Saturday and Sunday noon-4. In addition, Open House hours for the historic campus area of the property are every Saturday and Sunday (May through October) from noon to 4pm. We welcome the public to visit this campus area of the property only during these weekend Open House hours as this campus area of the property is kept private (no visitors) for retreat students Monday through Friday, May through October.
