Create Landscapes, Water, Beaches & Skies In Watercolor & Pencil
October 6 - October 12
Treat yourself to a week of making drawings and paintings in watercolor and pencil. Youíll work with ideas you bring with you, and with the natural beauty all around at The Clearing. Youíll have your own table space in the Schoolhouse studio on which to spread out your supplies and work at your own pace. The class will spend some time outside sketching the dramatic landscape at The Clearing, especially during sunny weather. And the class will take relaxing breaks to enjoy time together and to share the work thatís being done.
Beginners are welcome, as well as those who want to enrich their work with new techniques. Each morning, Lee will demonstrate different techniques in capturing cloud patterns, sunlight-on-water and other natural forms. He will share what he has learned from over 30 years of watercolor painting, particularly landscapes, beaches, water and skies. Heíll also share his many tricks of rendering nature in pencil. You are also welcome to explore your own subjects.
You may choose to work in graphite pencil, in watercolor or combine the two. Lee will provide a complete list of paper, drawing tools and watercolor supplies to bring with you. You may also bring pastels, pastel pencils, color drawing pencils or ink drawing pens of your choosing to explore and play.
Lee Mothes grew up by the Pacific Ocean and was enchanted by its energy at an early age. He began making pencil drawings as a kid, then tried using watercolors, then combined pencil and watercolor, then went back to drawing, and so on. After receiving a bachelorís degree in art in 1980, he worked as a graphic artist and as a carpenter until 1990, when he opened his Oceans and Dreams studio in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. He returns to the West Coast once or twice a year to promote his work and to get new ideas from actual observation on the beach. Lee also teaches drawing and painting at the Renaissance School of Art at West High School in Appleton, Wisconsin. Lee lives in Kaukauna.
