Online Registration Tips:

Log into or create your Clearing User Account well before the Winter Program registration start dates to ensure a smooth registration.

Class Prices & Fees:

Information on pricing and fees is listed at the end of each class description. Some classes may require an additional fee for materials. These are payable to The Clearing or to the instructor at class and are noted at the end of the class description.

Friends of The Clearing Life Members:

Life members will be able to register for 2025 Winter Program classes begining on December 5, 2024. For information on becoming a Life Member of Friends of The Clearing, please visit our Friends of The Clearing page or give us a call.

Cancellation Policy:

Full refunds are available only if The Clearing cancels a class in cooperation with or at the request of the instructor. No other refunds will be issued. There are no discounts or refunds for missed class sessions.

Severe Weather:

During severe weather, view WBAY, channel 2 (this seems to be the most consistent TV source for Gibraltar school’s status) or listen to WDOR, 910 AM/93.9 FM. If Gibraltar Schools are cancelled, all Clearing class sessions for that day are cancelled. If Gibraltar Schools have a late start, morning class sessions for that day at The Clearing are cancelled, afternoon class sessions will be held and full day classes will have the same delay as Gibraltar. If in doubt, please call The Clearing at 920-854-4088. Do not call Gibraltar Schools.

If class sessions are cancelled due to severe weather, make-up sessions (if any) will be coordinated between the instructor and The Clearing and communicated to students once confirmed.

Note: If all Clearing class sessions are cancelled on the day of a potluck, the potluck is also cancelled. If afternoon class sessions at The Clearing are cancelled, the potluck is also cancelled. If only morning class sessions are cancelled, the potluck will be held. If in doubt, call The Clearing at 854-4088.

Wait Lists:

Even though a class is full, there is still a chance that you can take the class. The Clearing maintains waiting lists for all of our classes. These lists are used in the event that registered students in a class need to cancel. While we can't predict when a cancellation will happen, our experience shows us they can happen anytime, even the day before class begins. When someone cancels, we want to fill that vacancy with a new student right away. We do that by using our waiting lists.

You can be added to a waiting list at anytime. All we need is your name and a phone number. If we receive a cancellation, we will start calling names on our waiting list beginning with the first and continuing down our list until we fill the vacancy. If we call and you are unable to come, you can simply tell us 'no' and we will continue down our list.

Potluck Notes:

Can you help at The Clearing Winter Program potlucks? Please check your online registration form or contact the office for more information and to sign up for these fun volunteer opportunities.

Please remember to bring a dish to pass that feeds 8-10 people, your own place setting, beverage (Decaf coffee & tea are provided.) and a plastic bag for your soiled dishes and utensils.

Note About Cancellations: If all Clearing class sessions are cancelled on the day of a potluck, the potluck is also cancelled. If afternoon class sessions at The Clearing are cancelled, the potluck is also cancelled. If only morning class sessions are cancelled, the potluck will be held. If in doubt, call The Clearing. (see SEVERE WEATHER section below)

Scandia Residents:

The tuition portion of the registration fee is waived for Scandia residents who take any Clearing class held at Scandia. Scandia residents must register with The Clearing by calling 920-854-4088. Students must pay for any materials fees as noted in the class description.

Helpful Things to Remember:

Keep your class listing & confirmation documents handy! It will help answer many of your questions.

Drive slowly at The Clearing. We sand the roads when conditions warrant it, but nothing helps as much as slowing down, especially on the curves! Most of the roads through The Clearing are one-way. Please follow the exit signs from the parking areas. The "spur" roads off the main campus road, are two-way so please be on the lookout for others who may be coming from the other direction. Online maps and directions are always available at www.theclearing.org, mouse over the About Us tab for a pull down menu, look for Maps & Directions and click on it.

Trails and roads at The Clearing can be uneven and rough in places. Be sure to wear appropriate winter clothing and sturdy footwear.

The Clearing takes registrations up to the start date of a class. If a class is full, wait lists are established and utilized to maximize participation in the case of someone else dropping from a class.

Buildings and Grounds:

The Clearing is a rustic, natural place. The paths around buildings are flagstone. Paths in the woods and meadows and along the escarpment cliff are bare soil or have a sawdust or wood chip surface. Rocks and tree roots are at the surface in some areas on these paths, so care should be taken when walking. Good walking shoes and a walking stick are helpful.

Although The Clearing has made many improvements with regard to making the buildings and grounds more accessible for those with physical disabilities, some people may have issues related to accessibility. Please call The Clearing to discuss any concerns you have regarding accessibility.

Admission Policy:

The Clearing is open to everyone 18 and older.

Office and Jens Jensen Visitor Center Hours:

Weekdays 8 - 4

Note: The Clearing office is also closed on December 24, 25, 31 & January 1.
