WINTER CLASS DESCRIPTION
Literature By & About African American WomenEstella Lauter
Tuesdays, January 11, 18, 25 & Feb. 1 from 1-4
In the light of concerns raised by recent books such as Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste, this seems to be a good time to return to several classics written by African American women. We will read Proud Shoes by Paule Murray, Passing by Nella Larsen, The Street by Ann Petry, and Mama Day by Gloria Naylor. As always, our task will be to make connections between the fictional past of the books and the world as we have experienced it, looking especially for what we might have missed. New and used books are available at various online venues.
Location: Schoolhouse Main Studio at The Clearing
