Cultivating Mindfulness

instructor imageAs life becomes increasingly complex, it’s essential to develop daily practices that cultivate calm, reduce stress and increase physical and mental flexibility, while deepening concentration and compassion. The quiet beauty of The Clearing offers a serene setting to experience this gift of mindfulness—the non-judgmental awareness of the present moment.

In this class, you’ll explore a variety of techniques to help expand your capacity to respond to life’s demands. These practices include focused breath work, gentle yoga and relaxation sequences, guided visualizations, sitting meditation, indoor walking meditation and outdoor walks on woodland trails and in The Clearing’s labyrinth. You’ll experiment with chanting, essential oils and creative arts and writing exercises as a part of developing daily self-care rituals.

No experience is necessary. The only prerequisite is curiosity and an openness to nurture your sense of well-being. The Clearing offers a gracious space to enrich your appreciation for the restorative life forces that exist within and around you. Former students are welcome back to deepen and share their commitment to practice.

Please bring a yoga mat, firm bed pillow, blanket, notebook or journal, comfy clothes and walking shoes. Also note that the movement experiences and outdoor walks require physical mobility, so if you have health issues that might affect participation, please contact Beth through The Clearing before registering.

Beth Coleman has spent her adult life exploring well-being on all levels—physical, mental, emotional and spiritual—and trusts in each person’s capacity to cultivate practices that honor one’s deepest life wisdom. She is a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Registered teacher, trained labyrinth facilitator, musician, Reiki practitioner and gardener of the soil and spirit. Beth has owned and operated The Garden Lady, a garden design/maintenance firm, for 22 years, and during that time has taught yoga, along with workshops in both gardening and contemplative practices. She also teaches in The Clearing’s Workshop and Winter Programs. In 2018, she completed a three-year program, “Spiritual Deepening for Global Transformation,” at The Christine Center in Willard, Wisconsin. She and her husband Curt are year-round residents of Ellison Bay and are deeply appreciative of The Clearing and its restorative presence in their life and community.
