Class Details
Whether you have used an inkle loom before or you’ve never ever tried weaving, this class is for you. We will explore making bands of several kinds as skill levels and time permits. Each weaver will work independently and create bands using plain weave, Baltic-style, turned krokbragd or tablet weaving. Bands have been used for thousands of years to contain things, close bags, keep hair neat, as a button band to match sweaters, to secure musical instruments, to hold your socks up or your blouse to your body. Infinitely useful, bands are fun to weave and quite meditative to make. We will spend time learning how to finish bands, make belts and keychains and see other uses for their use. Joan will contact students prior to class.
Students should bring an inkle loom (standard size is preferred), belt shuttle, scissors, erasable colored pencils, and note-taking material. Some inkle looms are available for rent through The Clearing. If you would like to do tablet/card weaving, bring a set of at least 25 cards. If you have yarn you’d like to use, please bring it.
