Class Details
This class is a brief introduction to the tunes associated with folk dances of the 19th and early 20th century midwestern America, e.g., Wisconsin and Door County. Examples of these tunes will be played by members of the Door County Folk Alliance and there will be an opportunity to take part in short dances led by a caller using these tunes. The origin of the tunes, structure of the tunes in relation to the dance, how the dancers, caller and musicians work together during a dance, and stories of how these tunes were used in Wisconsin to build the social fabric of our communities will be presented. These are the dance tunes used in the barn dances put on monthly by the Door County Folk Alliance.
