Create a dimensional felted flower inspired by the natural beauty of Door County in this two-day hands-on workshop. Using fibers as an easy, expressive way to “paint,” participants will capture the abstract essence of nature through soft color blending and organic textures. On day one, explore wet “nuno” felting as you layer wool and fabric to design a flowing, painterly floral composition. On day two, enhance your work with needle felting techniques that add embellishment, depth, and sculptural relief to petals and natural details. Felting is also a therapeutic, sensory-rich art form that encourages relaxation and creative exploration, making this workshop welcoming for all skill levels while you create a beautifully finished nature-inspired felt flower painting.
Nicole Herbst is a fiber and mixed media artist whose work is rooted in exploration, connection, and a deep reverence for the natural world. Nicole draws inspiration from the textures, colors, and quiet rhythms of the Door County region’s landscapes and flora. Her recent focus includes felting and watercolor, though her creative practice spans weaving, acrylics, drawing, and the incorporation of found natural elements. A longtime educator in the Sturgeon Bay School District, she brings a passion for both learning and sharing creativity with others. This dedication extends beyond the classroom, as she regularly leads workshops at galleries in Door County. Through both her artwork and teaching, she invites others to find beauty in their surroundings and to explore their own creative voices.
Nicole holds a B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, along with master’s degrees in education and pastoral ministry from St. Mary’s University of Winona, MN.
A member of the Textile Center in Minneapolis, the Sturgeon Bay Art Crawl, and a board member of the PAI (Peninsula Arts Initiative), Nicole stays actively connected to a broader fiber arts community. Her work has been featured in multiple Door County galleries and includes numerous commissioned pieces.
