Spend a spring week exploring Door County’s wildflower hot spots and learn to identify and recognize spring ephemerals in their various habitats. Everyone can enjoy wildflowers, so this class is designed for anyone who likes to get out and see which blooming beauties are available.

Be prepared to be in the field most of the time, walking in all types of habitats. Morning and afternoon walks will explore both sides of the Door Peninsula to experience how environmental conditions affect these early bloomers. Be prepared for Wisconsin spring weather, since the class will go out walking in warm or cold temperatures, and in rain or shine. Walking will be mostly light to moderate—up to about two miles each day—but sturdy walking shoes are recommended.  Larry will contact students prior to class. Carpooling is needed for this class.

Larry Morrison is an historian by education and occupation (now retired) but an avid wildflower enthusiast by avocation. He has spent 40 years “chasing” and photographing wildflowers throughout the United States and Canada. He is a past president of the Missouri Native Plant Society, a member of the Missouri, Illinois and Indiana Native Plant Societies, and takes frequent wildflower walks with these groups. He and his wife, Nancy, have been coming to Door County for over 30 years and always spend part of their time looking for the county’s wonderful wildflowers.
