This class is intended for students with no previous experience caning seats. Students will learn the ‘lock step’ method of seat caning. This technique can be used to cane any shape seat. The class will use a stool kit that will be purchased from the instructor before class. The stool will be assembled by the instructor and be ready to cane when class starts. Students will need to supply sharp pointed scissors and a small pail to soak cane.
Bill Seleen has been caning as a sideline business for over 35 years. During that time, he has become a master chair caner. Bill’s professional background includes stints doing vocational training in a variety of businesses. Bill is a patient and skilled trainer who excels at instructing learners. His motto is, “The trainer is responsible for the learner’s success.” Bill uses a variety of training techniques to ensure that the student learns.
Bill has been teaching caning at the Lifelong Learning Center at UWGB for the last 3 years.
