Class Details
There are many, many ways to knit socks—one at a time or two at a time, top down or bottom up, using any number of methods of knitting in the round, even knitting two at a time one inside the other. We will approach sock knitting like a curious visitor and explore the hows and whys and how they do or do not affect the end product (spoiler alert—as long as they keep your toes warm, it doesn’t really matter!). After sampling several ways to knit socks in the round, the first class project will be boot socks in worsted weight yarn to fit your feet and quickly review sock anatomy. Once you have the technique down and practiced a bit, you can cast on for a pair with standard weight sock yarn. Bonus! If you’d like to learn to use Knit Companion, bring your iPad and we can use it for the sock pattern. If you aren’t keen on socks, you are welcome to knit on any project of your choice and Joan will help you through the rough spots. It’s a great time to reduce you PhD’s (projects half done) — just in time for cooler weather. Joan will contact students prior to class.
