Class Details

This workshop will introduce students to wetland restoration and management issues and techniques with a focus on Door County peatlands: fens, bogs and cedar swamps.  On day one, we’ll learn about the ecology, history and cultural connections of the local ecosystems and actions that individuals can take to get involved with or support wetland conservation and restoration. Day two will take us out into the field. Carpooling is needed for this class. Please dress for the weather and bring hip waders or muck boots as well as a water bottle. This class will be held rain or shine. Chris will contact students prior to class.

Chris Lenhart is a professor at the University of Minnesota where he teaches and does research on wetlands, hydrology, water quality and sustainability. He also works with The Nature Conservancy on stream, wetland and other aquatic ecosystems. Over the past five years he has been working on the restoration and management of peatlands with various conservation groups in the upper Midwest and other countries with boreal ecosystems.
