Learn the art of photographing the natural world, concentrating on the process of “seeing” and turning vision into an image. Photography has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. As a result, the way photography is taught has evolved over that time. Hank’s classes now spend more time in the field than in the classroom.
This class is open to ability levels from the experienced beginner who is comfortable using their equipment to advanced level photographers. You’ll learn how to make images through location shooting, slide lectures, equipment and technique demonstrations, critiques and hands-on work in the field. Advanced photographers will find plenty of challenges, and advanced beginners will find new ways of looking at nature and making images.
All instruction is designed for DSLR or Mirrorless cameras. Phone cameras are not sufficient for this class however are great for candid shots during the workshop and a back-up. Bring your camera, camera manual, lenses, and tripod. A laptop with some image processing software is a necessity to process your images for critique and instruction. The class will cover exposure, histograms, camera settings, composition, light characteristics, controlling and improving light, landscapes, intimate landscapes and close-ups, and putting feeling into your work. Special attention will be given to photographing Door County’s fall color. Hank will contact students prior to class. Carpooling is needed for this class.
