History
Jensen moved an 1845 log schoolhouse from North Ephraim to this site in 1920 for a summer residence. Mrs. Jensen was unwilling to live here year-round without modern conveniences, but after her death Jensen moved here permanently in 1935. Tragically, in 1937 this home burned to the ground on the day before Easter, and all of Jensen’s books, art works, and hand-crafted furnishings were lost.
Jensen’s sketch plans for the present Lodge are dated 1940 and 1941, and Frank Oldenburg was the builder. Jensen lived in the south wing, entered by a separate door and now called the Professors’ Quarters. Outside on the Green Bay side is a small flagstone terrace, which appears to predate the fire.
